Welcome to the Association of College and University Religious Affairs (ACURA) website!
These are years of marvelous and unexpected change for “religious affairs” at our colleges and universities–wouldn’t we work an “S” for “spiritual” into our acronym if we were starting ACURA now? Or perhaps the “S” would be for “secular”–to reflect the challenges we now face attending to spiritual life within secularly defined higher education. However we might want to re-name ourselves, it’s clear things are changing.
As the landscape of religious life in our world and on our campuses transforms, it helps to have thoughtful colleagues with whom to share experiences, questions, and dilemmas. What draws me to ACURA is the emphasis on relationships. Especially in times as polarized and polarizing as ours are, I am so grateful to know obviously capable colleagues working for a range of colleges and universities. Hearing their stories about the challenges and joys of campus work gives me not only new ideas, but also new colleagues who are also inspired and confounded by the mysteries of campus work today. We hope you’ll join us in this ongoing conversation; we’re eager to hear the perspectives you bring to it.
